Garden Grove Auto Repair Tips Anyone Can Use

Garden Grove Auto Repair

At Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove we appreciate all of our loyal customer and know they will always trust us to take the best care of their vehicle. Unfortunately, we also know that there are times when your vehicle may have problems or you have a complete breakdown and may not have the opportunity to get to Orozco’s Auto Service location. If by chance that does ever occur we would like to share some valuable tips to help you in discovering a reliable alternative.

Learn about the auto repair shop’s reputation

If possible, ask around town and see if they know of the shops reputation. Also consider researching a few online reviews while understanding even a bad review can be insightful if the shop owner responds to the bad review with an effort to resolve the complaint. Additionally, feel free to stop in and check it out before making your decision. Is everyone friendly and professional? Is the shop clean and organized? Just by performing some do diligence can go a long ways into choosing an auto repair shop.

Do some online research

It doesn’t take long to do a little research on your estimate. Many common repairs can be found online to give you a better understanding of what the mechanic may be performing on your vehicle. Sadly, some of the less ethical shops out there can try to pad your invoice with non-essential task and or parts that didn’t need to be replaced.

Always ask for estimate prior to any work starting

You should not allow the shop to start working on your car without giving you an estimate for how much the work is expected to cost. In many states you are entitled to: An estimate – Before beginning any repairs, the auto shop must provide you with an estimate showing the estimated price for parts and labor and obtain your authorization. Sometimes the only option available is an estimates given over the phone so even though a written estimate carries more legal weight it may not be feasible. Many times an estimates is simply just an estimates, so it’s possible your bill could be slightly higher, if you see anything that is in excess of that stated amount possibly get a second opinion.

Inform the service advisor or mechanic with as many details as possible

When you bring your vehicle into an auto repair shop try and give the service advisor or mechanic as much information regarding the problem as possible. Letting them know if your vehicle is making strange noises when does that noise or rattle start…while going around corners, just after you start the vehicle and so on. This will give the shop a better directions and they can most likely diagnose the issue sooner and help getting you back on the road quicker.

Ask follow up with questions

Unfortunately, far to many customers fall into the trap of the feared padded bill. Be it adding additional unnecessary repairs, upping to repair time or even listing repairs that aren’t even performed. Any honest auto repair shop wont be insulted if you ask to see the old parts or even point out the new parts installed if they are in a viewable position on your vehicle.

Be mindful of the the service advisors’ attitude

The service advisor, is generally your contact person at the front desk and your go between to the auto mechanic. If they are short with repair descriptions or easily agitated when you ask questions this may be the best time to request a manager or find another shop.

Try to avoid the larger chain stores

A smaller family owned auto repair shop may be a better option, due to the fact that they need to build long term relationships with their customers to earn repeat business. Additionally, the day may come when you need to get your previous repair records for routine maintenance of fluids and parts and having them spread out to several shops may prove difficult in tracking them down.

We hope these tips will be helpful if you’re ever away from an Orozco’s Auto Service location when you’re in need of emergency auto service. Always drive safe!

The Best Auto Repair Advice For Traction Control System Repair

Traction Control System Repair
Garden Grove Traction Control System Repair

Drivers in Garden Grove can be a bit overwhelmed with all the new dashboard alerts and buttons on newer vehicles. One in particular is TCS. TCS stands for Traction Control System, this is a feature that ‘s on all new vehicles and can help to prevent the drive wheels from losing traction on slippery roads.

Here’s some basic information on TCS (Traction Control System)

The Traction Control System uses your wheel-speed sensors on your antilock brake system to feel when one or more of the drive wheels are slipping and or loosing wheel traction. Vehicles will vary depending on your model and make, but basically the vehicle reduces power to the drive wheels and/or apply the brakes to try to restore needed traction. When the TCS engages, a dashboard light may illuminate to alert you to the action.

Additionally, TCS works as a driver who eases their foot off the accelerator when they feel a drive wheel starting to slip, as if they were to accelerate too quickly on a slippery surface. Additionally, TCS can detect a wheel slip sooner, react faster and, on some cases, reduce the power to individual drive wheels on some vehicles.

Depending on the vehicle some TCS systems can vary in their performance, some traction control systems can intervene too quickly or may shut off too much power to the drive wheels, and the result is you may get stuck in snow or ice storm and find yourself going nowhere. In some situations you may be better to turn off the traction control systems and get moving by rocking your vehicle back and forth or powering through by flooring the accelerator.

Even though some earlier versions of TCS started appearing in the ’70s, it wasn’t until the late ’80s that TCS became more widely available on more economical vehicles, initially on high-end vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes and other high end brands. Now, all modern vehicles now have TCS, but it has become less visible in the last decade due to the fact it’s sometimes incorporated into the electronic stability control system (SCS).

If you have more questions regarding TCS Traction Control System Repair feel free to visit any of our Orozco’s Auto Service locations. Tips For Finding The Right Exhaust System Repair

Exhaust Pipe Repair

Every driver at some time has that moment when you’re driving through Garden Grove enjoying your favorite song on the radio when all of suddenly a vehicle with an damaged exhaust drives by. sometime so load that you panic and swerve as the vehicle screams by. Even worse is when you discover your vehicle is making that sound! Don’t panic, Orozco’s Auto Service can muffle that noise.

Most Garde Grove drivers know your muffler keeps your engine running quietly, but it’s also a big factor for your vehicles complete exhaust system. There are three main functions your exhaust system provides to you vehicle.

While many people know one of the primary functions for your muffle is to reduce the engines exhaust noise. Additionally, it safely moves hot exhaust gases from the engine out the tailpipe through a network of pipes beginning with the exhaust manifold. Finally, the exhaust system treats the exhaust to remove harmful pollutants with the assistance of the catalytic converter.

Lets address the harmful pollutants (carbon monoxide) billowing out from your engine. You don’t want that getting into your passenger compartment, carbon monoxide can be deadly. That’s why you should never run your engine in a closed area or garage. If you have a leak someplace in the exhaust system, it could get into the passenger cabin and make you sick or if ignored, kill you and or your passenger(s). Exhaust gas contains a number of pollutants and dirty particulates.

Another component of all exhaust systems these days is a catalytic converter that scrubs some of those harmful substances. And diesel vehicles have systems to deal with soot. Unfortunately, catalytic converters eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Additionally, they are expensive so you want to help them last as long as possible by keeping your fuel system clean and regularly replacing your air filter. And as many people know, these components need to be tested for function with an emission tests from time to time. If you think you smell exhaust in your vehicle, immediately roll down the windows and drive to Orozco’s Auto Service or any qualified mechanic to get your vehicle inspected.

Sometimes you can smell or see exhaust coming from the engine compartment or under the vehicle if you have a leak. Sometimes you may hear a ticking sound after you start the engine that will go away as you drive. That can mean there’s a small crack or bad fitting / seal that leaks when the engine is cold and closes up when the metal heats up making it expands. It can also generate sound from an exhaust leak that is loud and obvious as stated above.

If you believe your vehicle’s exhaust system needs service or are not sure and would like to have your vehicle inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at (714) 537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

All You Need To Know About Coil Spring Repair

Coil Spring Repair

Garden Grove Coil Spring Repair

Most of today’s modern vehicles have Coil springs, generally on smaller vehicles like sedans. Coil springs are available in soft or hard variations depending their use. For example, if they are used on a large vehicle, the coil spring will be hard to offer maximum support for the excessive weight and the softer sprigs for lighter vehicles. Coil springs go to each wheel, forming a central compression zone. The Coil spring has a helical appearance and goes around the struts or shocks. Although, on some vehicles, they are mounted individually. This simple innovation comes in handy for a smooth ride.

Coil springs became prominent during the ’70s with the changes in automobile technology, but they have been around since the early 1900s. Today’s springs have many applications due to their versatility. You find them on everything from standard sedans to sports cars, vans, SUVs, and trucks. The coil springs main function is to support the vehicle at a desired height, also to maintain alignment and to help absorb road shock transmitted through the tires and shock absorbers.

The endless flexing during normal use will gradually weaken your vehicles suspension system, which in turn will allow the vehicle to sag from one side or the other. Once this sag becomes pronounced, your entire vehicle will be affected. One in particular is your steering components shift out of position, resulting in altering the steering linkage geometry. But there is good news, what’s been lost from the older worn out coil springs can be completely repaired with the installation of new coil springs. This will get your vehicle back to it’s original factory height and driving like it should.

How often do you have to get coil springs inspected?

Most all manufacturers recommend getting your vehicle’s coil springs inspected at regular intervals along with your entire suspension system that can include struts, shocks, sway bar links, bushings and more. Most reputable auto repair shops will do this when you bring your vehicle in for it’s recommended oil service. A quick visual inspection can detect any sag problems from front to rear or from side to side. Upon a visual inspection under your vehicle, we will also look for the two ends of the control arms that can be out of level, damaged or worn rubber bumpers and of course worn spring coils. All these elements can indicate weak coil springs. If you also live or often drive your vehicle in a colder climate where roads are often salted in winter weather, you should consider having your steering and suspension system checked more often due o the fact that salt can cause speed up your spring corrosion.

How You Can Master Car Care With This Advice

Auto Care
People occasionally see a commercials for ” Car Care” and don’t know exactly what Car Care means. Well it means exactly what it implies, caring for your car. So what are all these cares and why don’t all repair shops maintain the care of cars, SUVs or Trucks? Many auto repair shops may do a good job at certain tasks but not all shops are the same. For instance, when you bring your car, SUV or Truck to Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove for maintenance, we will give your vehicle a 21 point inspection and then make recommendations for your car’s care. Additionally, we maintain detailed records of all the maintenance or repairs that we perform. Another benefit of our regular car care is you can later prove that your vehicle has been well maintained with all those backed up records, and this will pay off when your ready to resell it. Finally, it’s important to know that regular car care does come at a cost, while it’s not always inexpensive, it will  ultimately help you avoid future costly repairs.

Below are some Car Care tasks you can handle on your own and some that you should leave to the pros at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove.

Personal Car Care

OIL AND FLUID LEVELS
Every month, or every few gas fill-ups and especially before any longer road trips, it’s a good idea to open the hood of your car and check your fluids. This can include the oil, brake fluid, steering fluid, transmission fluid and coolant levels while the engine is cool. Low levels of either can lead to engine problems if left unchecked. Always refer to your owner’s manual to locate the inspection ports on your specific vehicle.

REPLACE WINDSHIELD WIPERS
Windshield wipers usually need to be replaced about once a year due to the diversity of Los Angeles weather, or if the effectiveness of cleaning your windshield is compromised. One simple trick to check your wipers is use the windshield wiper-washer occasionally to check the effectiveness of your wipers before you’re stuck in the rain.

TIRE PRESSURE
Now days with todays gas prices it’s more important that ever to have well-maintained tires that are not only safe but also fuel-efficient, make it a habit to visually inspect your tires often. Check your tire pressure every month, and before long trips or carrying an extra load. Don’t forget the spare. Always keep a tire pressure gauge in the vehicle, it will be needed to check your tire pressure. Also, during the colder months, note that tire pressure drops one pound with every 10 degree decrease in pressure. Your owner’s manual will tell you how much air pressure your tire needs.

WAX VEHICLE
Waxing your vehicle every six months after washing it won’t just keep it shiny, it’ll also help to keep both the paint in good shape and help reduce the chance of rust. Many road irritants such as dust, sand, and winter road salt can build up and environmental factors like ozone and ultraviolet light can cause microscopic damage, but waxing can help minimize this by forming a protective seal to extend your paint’s life. Always consult with a professional to determine the best automotive wax for your vehicle.

VEHICLE LIGHTS
The lights on your vehicle aren’t just so you can see at night, they are also an import part of driving safely in day or night. Unfortunately, it’s a simple function of your vehicle that can be easily overlooked. Once a month, turn on your headlights when the vehicle parked in front of a flat surface and check that both headlights are working properly and well-positioned. Then walk around your vehicle and visually inspect both turn signals and your parking lights. Have a friend stand behind the car while you engage the brakes to be certain that your brake lights are functional. If you’re on your own you can always back close to a flat surface as stated before in reverse and see through your rear view mirrors if they are working.

AIR FILTER
Your engine’s air filter is what regulates air flow into your engine and help keep out debris and dust particulate. When you make certain that your air filter is flowing properly, you can also improve fuel efficiency, decrease your emissions, and help prolong the life of your engine. This can be done easily at home or a service station when you fill your tank, be sure to check your owner’s manual for instructions and how often it needs to be changed.

Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove – Car Care

OIL & FILTER
The motor oil in your vehicle’s maintains several functions that include: lubricating moving parts, acting as a sealant against debris, helps cools the engine, reduces wear and tear, and helps prevent engine corrosion. Keeping your engine clean is vital for your engine’s good health. Depending on your vehicle and what kind of oil you use, you may need to change both the oil & oil filter every 3 months or 3000 miles. Many newer vehicles’ owners’ manuals will recommend changing your oil less frequently if they are using a synthetic or a synthetic bend oil – often in-between 5,000 and 10,000 miles. Check your vehicle owner’s manual and consult with a Orozco’s Auto Service professional to be certain what is appropriate for your vehicle.

INSPECT SHOCKS AND STRUTS
The shocks and struts on your vehicle function to control the impact and rebound as your vehicle moves over bumps in the road and is an essential part of your vehicle’s suspension system. They should be inspected by a professional every 50,000 miles or bring your car into Orozco’s Auto Service if you notice a decrease in smoothness or loss of control when driving.

TRANSMISSION FLUID
A lot like the oil in your engine, transmission fluid is a lubricant that helps keep all of the moving parts inside of your transmission functioning properly. Whether you’re driving an automatic or manual transmission vehicle, it is essential that you have your transmission fluid checked and changed when necessary to avoid costly transmission damage or even a replacement. Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.

COOLANT FLUID EXCHANGE
The radiator in your car is a critical component that helps keep your engine cool and working properly. You should regularly have your coolant system flushed, it will help get rid of contaminants that can build up inside as well as ensure that your radiator is filled to the proper level. Always check your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation to find out how often your coolant should be changed.

BATTERY CHECK
Batteries are one of the most important components for your vehicle. Car batteries supplies large amounts of electrical current for the starter, engine and other electronic accessories in the vehicle. Extreme temperatures in our desert can affect the performance of your batteries life so regular battery testing will ensure that battery will perform at it’s best.

SPARK PLUGS
Spark plugs ignite the gas and air mixture in your engine that ultimately powers your vehicle . If one or more of your spark plugs aren’t functioning properly, your engine will lose power and won’t run at optimal capacity. Have a professional check and replace any faulty spark plugs depending on the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations or if you feel a decrease in your engine’s power.

SERPENTINE BELT
Although it may seem like a simple piece of rubber, your vehicle’s serpentine belt is essential to keeping your car running by powering peripheral devices such as your alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioner compressor. A simple visually inspection of the belt to ensure that it is free of cracks or other wear and tear. Replace id damaged or according to your vehicle manufacture’s recommendation.

FRONT AND/OR REAR DIFFERENTIAL
The differentials are devices that split the torque or power from the engine and allow it to send the proper amount of power to the tires. In front or rear-wheel drive vehicles, there is only one differential, but in 4-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles, there is both a front and rear differentials, and possibly even a center differential. Like many parts of your vehicle, differentials need to be kept lubricated to ensure reliable functionality. Have a professional check and change fluid whenever your vehicle manufacturer recommends it.

TIRE ROTATION
Depending on your vehicle usage, alignment, and several other factors, the tread wear patterns on your tires may vary between the front and back tires, or even from one side of the tread to the other. Rotating your tires will extend the service life of your tires by more evenly balancing the tread wear, and helping prevent noise and vibration problems.

TRANSFER CASE FLUID
In four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles, the transfer case is what shifts power from the transmission to the axles. You should have your transfer case fluid checked according to your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations to be certain that it is properly filled and leak-free. This requires getting under the vehicle, so bringing it into Orozco’s Auto Service or an equivalent professional is recommended.

CHANGE TIRES
Tire wear can depend greatly on driving habits, the function of the vehicle, maintenance, and the road surfaces you regularly drive on. Realizing when you need new tires may be a little tricky for some. They’re curious to know if they absolutely need to replace their tires. There’s a simple answer to all of these kinds of questions; a new set of quality tires will alleviate the stress of worrying about the safety and performance of the tires you have right now. One simple test is to place a penny between the tread grooves with the top of Lincoln’s head nearest to the tire. If you can see any space above the top of the head, it’s a good time to replace your tires. If you feel you need new tires for any reason stop into Orozco’s Auto Service for a complete inspection.

Always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you! If you believe your vehicle needs some Car Care attention contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove.

Helpful Ideas For A Garden Grove Oil Change

Garden Grove Oil Change

Even though all Garden Grove car owners know they should get their vehicle’s oil changed regularly, there’s also so many reasons why people may put it off. I don’t have time, it cost too much, I hate waiting, I don’t like auto shop restrooms and so on. Here at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove we know how you feel. We and our families have all gone through those same frustrations and that’s why we want to put your mind at ease. First, the easy answers. Orozco’s Auto Service maintains the cleanest of waiting rooms and restrooms. We have several options for making appointments over the phone or online. You can also drop off your vehicle and we can drop you off at your home or office within 10 miles. Getting regular oil serve will save you more in the long run.

Now to make you feel even better here’s what does an oil change does, and why it’s so important? Something as simple as an oil change may not seem critical to keeping your car running well, but neglecting your vehicles oil can cause some serious problems. Here’s why you need to make sure you get an oil change at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals.

Adding oil versus changing oil: If you check your vehicle’s dipstick and the oil level is low, then adding oil is a quick but temporary way to fix the problem and get back on the road. Keep in mind that most cars will start to burn a little oil as they age.

Changing the oil: This is a bit more involved, it requires draining the engine of all the old oil that is most likely very black in color due to dirt and debris and replacing it with fresh oil to a specified level indicated by the dipstick. You will also need to get a new oil filter, which will help to keep the fresh oil clean by collecting some of that dirt and debris that the oil captures on its way through your car’s engine. Your vehicle’s oil needs to be changed when it gets too dirty to accomplish its mission of keeping the engine components moving smoothly. At Orozco’s Auto Service, we do all this and give your vehicle a full inspection along with checking and topping off all fluids that appear low which is part of our recommended maintenance plan.

Another reason oil changes are so important is because the primary function of your engine’s oil is keeping the metal parts of your engine lubricated. This will prevent any metal-on-metal contact, which can cause engine damage that can be very costly to repair. A thin layer of oil on key components keeps them all sliding smoothly and reduces friction that could otherwise harm your engine over time. Reducing friction also reduces heat buildup, which can also be a problem for your engine.

Additionally oil keeps it clean. If you look at the contents of a fresh bottle of oil, you’ll notice that it’s more of a golden amber color compared to the brown or black oil on your dipstick. That’s because it’s clean. As oil moves through your engine, it carries away dirt and grime that gradually turns the oil dark. Dark, dirty oil will not do a good job of lubricating or cleaning your engine. You should get your oil changed at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals to ensure that your engine remains clean and running smoothly. Luckily Garden Grove isn’t particularly a dirty or dusty environment, but if you travel to that type of a climate you should get your oil (not to mention their air filters) changed more often.

Lastly, If you see your oil change light lit on your dashboard, do not ignore it. Car Repair: Keep Your Car In Shape

Car Repair

Garden Grove car owners know the best way to make your car to last is to take care of it. Sadly, when we asked many of those same Garden Grove drivers what exactly do they need to do to make their cars last longer, they weren’t so sure. Although most of them knew changing your oil regularly was important, but with a follow up question regarding how often should you get your oil changed was all over the board. And that was the same when asked about their brakes, batteries, engine and transmission fluids, windshield wipers, and so on.

To help keep your vehicle running as long as it should and clear up some of the myths and misinformation, here are some facts from your friends at family owned Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove.

Get Regular Oil Changes
Ignoring your car’s oil is one of the worst and possibly the most costly things to neglect. It’s better to take the time and spend the money to get the oil changed than risk seizing your engine. Standard oil should be changed every 3,000 miles or 6 months and synthetic is every 6,000 miles or 18 months.

Maintenance Tip: Always consult your owners manual for the manufacturers recommendations on changing your oil.

Clean Your Battery & Battery Terminals
Your batteries terminals can begin to show signs of corrosion that can work it’s way into the terminal cables resulting in less power to your engine. Additionally, f you don’t keep them clean, your battery can develop cracks and start to malfunction, leaving you stranded. Today’s car batteries are pretty costly and more expensive brand cars are really expensive, something you don’t want to replace if you don’t have to. Investing in a wire brush and keeping the battery and terminals clean is time and money well spent.

Maintenance Tip: Stop By Orozco’s Auto Service for a battery check every 6 months.

Air Filters Replacement
Your vehicle’s air filters helps keep dust and pollutants from entering your vehicle through the vents. The air filters have a very important job, so you want to keep it maintained. Most newer vehicles have two air filters, one under the hood and another the cabin filter is usually behind the glove box. Additionally, using an old air filter past its life can lead to some major problems for your AC system and your engine. Something nobody want to deal with when it’s completely preventable.

Maintenance Tip: You should get your air filter changed every 12 months or 12,000 mile, sometimes more often in a dry dusty climate.

Windshield Wipers Replacement
The cost of new windshield wipers can vary and that is usually relative to the speed in which they can wear our. With the hot summer  Garden Grove sun this can be quicker that other less sunny regions. You should check you wiper at least twice a year so you’re not caught in a sudden rain or dust storm. Obviously, a dirty windshield or worn out wipers can significantly hamper your view that not only endangers you and your passengers but also the people around you.

Maintenance Tip: Use you windshield wiper’s window cleaning function regularly to stay up-to-date on your windshield wipers reliability.

Get your tires rotated
You can extend the life of your tires by rotating them per your manufacturers recommendations? All four tires on your car do not wear down at the same rate. The front or back set of tires can wear down at different rates depending on your vehicle, your speed and roads conditions. Maintaining to rotate your tires can extend their life and keep you and you family safe longer.

Maintenance Tip: Rotate your tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or per your manufacturers recommendations.

Check Suspension System
Your suspension system is a very intricate part of your vehicle that most people take for granted. Most of us never even think about it until it stops working and leaving you stranded. One of the key elements of your vehicle’s suspension is the shocks and struts, these help maintain a smooth ride, and ignoring this issue can help to prematurely wear out your tires.

Maintenance Tip: Have your full suspension system checked every 15,000 to 30,000 miles.

Check Your Coolant

You should always keep an eye on your vehicles coolant level. If your coolant gets to low your vehicle can overheat and do some serious damage to your engine. Your coolant affects so many elements of you car from air conditioner to the heater, radiator and water pump and more. Something that impacts that much of your car’s overall health should never be neglected.

Maintenance Tip: Regularly check your coolant level whenever you get gas or prepare for a long trip.

Check Your Spare Tire
The last thing anyone wants to find while you’re digging out the jack is a flat spare tire. That’s when you’ll need to call a tow truck—which not only can take several hours out of your day or night, it can also cost you a lot of money depending on where your vehicle brakes down.

Maintenance Tip: Check your tires air pressure, including the spare at least once a month. Maintaining the appropriate air pressure will also help you save gas.

Belts and Hoses
Perform a visual inspection on your belts and hoses at least once a year. Worn-down belts and hoses can cause other damage to essential components of your engine including your cooling system, heater, air conditioner and more. And for those hard to get to belts and hoses feel free to stop by any Orozco’s Auto Service and we will be happy to inspect them.

Maintenance Tip: Follow your vehicles manufacturer’s recommendations for replacing your timing belt and serpentine belt. These are both critical to your engines health and a failure of these components can lead to critical failure in your engine.

At Orozco’s Auto Service we are happy to help you with any of the above mentioned maintenance and would be happy to work with you on establishing a regular maintenance schedule for your vehicle.

Info On Garden Grove New Brake Pads & Repair

brake repair

Garden Grove Brake Repair

One of your vehicles mot important elements besides your engine are your brakes. The engine makes you move and your brakes make you stop. Unfortunately, that’s all most Garden Grove drivers really consider when thinking about their brakes, until they stop working. To help avoid that scary thought  from becoming a reality we would like to share some of the signs that it’s time for some brake maintenance. One of the most common failures in your brake system are the brake pads. If they are routinely checked you can get them replaced before they cause more serious damage to your vehicles overall braking system.

In most all newer vehicles, the front wheels have a braking apparatus that depend on rotors: large steel discs behind each wheel. Above each rotor is a clamp-like device called the caliper. When you engage the brake pedal, your calipers start to close, squeezing the rotors from both sides. This action creates friction, which slows your vehicle until they come to a full stop.

Brake pads, per the name are simply pads that are mounted inside the calipers to make contact with the rotors during the previously mentioned process. However, brake pads don’t last forever. The stopping process will eventfully wear them down. Also, depending on your driving habits and freeway versus city can also take a toll on them, making them wear out even quicker. When the brake pads get too thin your brakes won’t work as well as they should and this is when it time to visit the pros at Orozco’s Auto Service.

Tips for recognizing possible brake problems:

Screeching noises
Most brake pads are built with “wear indicators.” Wear indicators are small metal tabs located near the top of typical brake pads. When the brake pad wears down an unsafe level, the indicator will scrape against the rotor. This creates a distinctive grating noise which warns drivers that the brake pads are in immediate need of service. If you ignore this to long the pads can completely wear our forcing your vehicle to stop with metal grinding on metal that will destroy your rotors and lead to complete brake failure.

Clicking noises
Some cars, brake pads fit snugly into a special holding device. Other vehicles keep them steady with pins, clips or bolts. The common goal behind these designs is to keep the brake pads from wobbling. If they become loose, they’ll begin to rattle. What happens next is a clicking sound that rings out whenever the brake pedal is pushed or released.

Stopping takes longer than it used to
This is called “brake fade.” This is usually a result of applying the brakes over a vast distance without bringing the car to a full stop. Sometime this can be a bad driving habit know as ridding the brake, some people are overly cautious which can wear on your brakes. This can also happen while driving down a mountainside or over winding roads. However, if you live in an area will lots of hills you ridding the brakes may not be avoidable—but, over time it will take a toll on your braking system.

Your car pulls to one side when braking
Brake pads don’t always wear out at the same rate. Depending on your daily Long Beach commute, following the same turns day after day can result in uneven wear. Should this occur, your vehicle may pull slightly to one side or the other when you use the brakes. Leaving this problem unchecked can put unnecessary stress on your vehicles suspension like the ball joints, steering knuckles, wheel bearings and more.

Vibrations when the brake is pressed
If your brake pedal shakes whenever you step on it your brake pads may be the problem. Brake pads are typically held together with a binding resin. As each brake pad wears down, this adhesive gets hot and can get smeared across the rotor. Under the best of  circumstances, it will form a layer that’s evenly spread over the disc’s surface. But if a brake pad gets overheated, the resin may not be distributed uniformly. This is called this issue “glazing” and it can cause brake pedals to vibrate.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or you believe your vehicle’s brake system needs service or are not sure and would like to have your brakes inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at (714) 537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Simple Car Advise: Roadside Emergency Kit

Roadside Emergency Kit

Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove would like to remind our loyal customers and their families to keep an Emergency Roadside Kit in their vehicle(s). Nobody can predict when an accident or at minimum a blocked road that can leave you stranded for hours. If you find yourself on one of those scenarios, having a Roadside Emergency Kit with the proper components can make the difference in keeping you and your passengers safe until help arrives. Depending on the issue, securing the right tools can go make a big difference in turning a bad situation into something a bit more tolerable.

While many of these items can usually be found in most trunks, not all Roadside Emergency Kits are the same. While there are many kits available on the market, you can always prepare your own for the type vehicle you drive, as well as the typical weather conditions where you generally travel or live. As most Garden Grove drivers know, you can be skiing in our local mountains in the afternoon and having dinner in our desert climate in the same day. Meaning, it’s best to prepare for both hot and cold scenarios.

Here are some essentials for your Roadside Emergency Kit:

Flares & Lighting
One of the most important safety items for your kit are flares or reflective triangles, these will warn other drivers of the roadside hazard. In case of a breakdown they should be spaced out evenly along the roadside behind your vehicle. For a longer-lasting option, invest in battery-operated LED flares.

Jumper Cables
These are another essential for every vehicle. Batteries can die or lose their charge at the least opportune moment; jumper cables, with a jump-start from another vehicle, can at least get you to the next service station. You should also consider carrying a separate battery pack for starting your car if no one is around.

Car Fluids & Tools
Flat tires are one of the most common roadside problems, but it’s not always possible to change a tire. Including a can of tire inflator and sealant in your kit, if it’s a small leak you’ll have a better chance at making it to a service station and at minimum a safer place to pull over. here are a few additional recommendations: motor oil, coolant, extra windshield wiper blades, and a toolkit with screwdrivers, pliers, and an adjustable wrench.

First Aid Kit
A first-aid kit is an must have item and is indispensable for addressing smaller, everyday injuries and more serious wounds in the case of an accident. You can purchase them pre-packed with all the essentials or assemble one customized to your needs.

Car Accessories for Winter / Mountains

An ice scraper, a spray bottle with washer fluid, snow chain, blankets, a sleeping bag or a heat-retaining emergency survival blanket, bottled water and long-lasting food items such as energy bars can be rotated out over time.

Car Accessories for Summer / Desert

Bottled water and long-lasting food items such as energy bars can be rotated out over time. Hat with a wide brim, Sunglasses, sturdy knife / multitool, several large leaf bags or solar blankets for instant body shelter from the sun, a small mirror or a signal mirror, matches, butane lighter or flint and steel, a police-type whistle, flashlight and batteries, duct tape.

Lastly, if you are planning a family road trip it’s always a good idea to visit Orozco’s Auto Service for a pre-trip inspection or call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076 to schedule a free appointment. Always keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Auto Basics: How To Maintain A Car Battery Life

Maintain A Car Battery

With today’s high vehicle, along with a variety electronics we take with us in the car, a strong car battery is more important than ever. So, if your family is on a road trip or just driving around Garden Grove running errands you need your devices working. Some of these devices may be playing your favorite music, navigating you to your destination, entertaining the kids with movies and games and more. With that being said, your car battery is a crucial part of your vehicle. In addition to powering all your gadgets, your battery sends power to the starter to turn over the engine and stores electricity generated by the alternator to maintain power. Extending the life of your car battery will also help you avoid an untimely breakdown.

Furthermore, the reality about car batteries is their lifespan is usually only three to five years, and there are multiple factors that can reduce that lifespan. So to help you get the most out of your vehicle’s battery here are a few tips.

Try To Avoid Short Trips

If your vehicle sits unused for long periods of time try to occasionally take extended trip to help the battery regain a full charge. If you know your vehicle will have extended periods of infrequent use, invest in a charger that can supply a low power to help your battery maintain a full charge and not drain down completely.

Be Cautious Of Extreme Weather

Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold can be detrimental to your vehicles battery. As everyone knows Garden Grove has hot summers that can cause your vehicle’s battery to age more quickly. And if you’re visiting our local mountains with snow that can also also be hard on your battery, as it causes our vehicle to use up more power. As a reminder don’t forget to test your battery in every season, not just when it gets cold or hot.

Keep Accessories Off When Starting The Engine

Seat warmers, heated steering wheels, lights, radio, cell phones, climate control and navigation systems are all a drain on your vehicle’s battery. When starting your vehicle, especially in cold weather. A good tip is to turn everything off when you exit your vehicle so you don’t have to worry about them when you have to rush out.

Clean Battery Terminals And Test Your Battery

Your vehicle’s battery requires maintenance and testing. Occasionally check the battery’s connections to make sure that they are secure and clean and aren’t showing any signs of corrosion. Batteries can routinely develop a powdery substance where the cables connect to the terminals. Most newer vehicles have a waring light on the dash to indicate if the battery isn’t maintaining a full charge or may not be able to accept a recharge. If not, replace the battery immediately.

At Orozco’s Auto Service we know everyone’s not up for the challenge of cleaning terminals cables to maintain and check their battery. If your vehicle has any of the above signs or you feel your vehicle’s battery needs service or are not sure and would like to have it diagnosed, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Have The Right Knowledge Concerning Auto Suspension Repair

Auto Suspension Repair

Your vehicle’s suspension isn’t something most people think about when it’s working. When all of a sudden you may notice uneven wear on your tires or start to feel excessive play with your steering wheel. Or you just drove over a pothole on one of our local Garden Grove roads causing damage to your suspension. These are signs that you may have a suspension problem. Another sign to look for is the front of your vehicle slumps when braking or bottoms out when accelerating.

But what is the suspension? It’s part of your vehicles chassis, which includes the frame, the steering system and the wheels. The suspension system supports your vehicle’s weight, helps reduce the effect of shock forces and maintains proper wheel alignment. It’s critical for accurate steering, stopping and stability. Every time you hit a pothole, a bump, or object in the road, your suspension absorbs that impact and maintains control.

Most suspension systems are made up of several parts (shocks, springs absorbers, air springs, struts, torsion bars, leaf springs, pull rods, etc.) that all connect to your vehicle wheels one way or another.

With all those parts you can imagine, your suspension has a lot of joints and pivot points that allow your wheels to move up and down over bumps, and to turn as you steer. Over time these joints wear out over time. Once a joint is worn out, the suspension parts don’t fit together as well as they should. Handling and steering can feel loose, and you may hear some disconcerting noises. Eventually your tires will begin to wear unevenly because they are bouncing on the road. A loose joint has the effect of stressing other suspension components causing a chain reaction so other components wear out faster than they should.

Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove recommends proper maintenance according to your vehicles manufacturer’s recommendations which means having your suspension inspected regularly and repairing or replacing parts when needed.

Addressing a small problem before it becomes a major repair later can help avoid additional costs. Also, by having parts replaced or checked to ensure they follows the manufacturer’s specifications. Manufacturer’s also recommend replacing your shock absorbers at pre-estimated intervals.

If your vehicle has any of the above signs or you feel your vehicle’s suspension needs service or are not sure and would like to have it diagnosed, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Take Care Of Your Flat Tire Repair At Orozco’s Auto Service

Flat Tire Repair

A flat tire seems to never happen when not in a rush to go some place. Sometimes you walk out to your vehicle to go to work and there’s a flat tire or your heading down the road to pick up the kids and notice you’re car pulling to one side and is a bit sluggish or worst case your driving down the 405 freeway and get a blow out. These are all terrible situations to be in, at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove, we know how inconvenient a flat tire can be. Tires can go flat for many reasons, including a puncture, a leaking valve stem, a bent rim or just old tires. If you experience a flat or low tire, bring your vehicle to a stop as soon as possible without jeopardizing your safety or the people around you and preferably in a safe place. If you’re stranded on the roadside, turn on your hazard lights and raise your hood if it’s a safe place to exit your vehicle. Once you are safely situated, you can change to your spare, try a tire sealer/inflator or call for a tow truck. Don’t try driving for even a very short distance on a deflated tire because it will damage the tire beyond repair and possibly your rim.

Unfortunately not all tires can be repaired even when they just have a nail in the tire and are told by a tire. Here are a few common reasons why some tires shouldn’t be repaired.

The Puncture Is In The None Repair Zone
In order to repair a tire the puncture needs to be about 20% away from both sides of the tire towards the treads. If your puncture is to close the sidewall and is repaired, this can compromise the structure of the tire making it unsafe to drive on. Tire shops need to keep customers safe, and they all follow an industry standard and will are not aloud to repair a puncture too close to either sidewall. Even if it’s close they won’t patch it to protect your safety and themselves from any liability.

You Drove To Far On A Deflated Tire
Today’s tires have an inner structure of the sidewall that isn’t designed to support your vehicle’s weight when not properly inflated. You can sometimes get away with driving on a flat for a short distance – meaning a few feet not down the street. Just drove 10 minutes on the flat will not only destroy the sidewall structure of your tire, but you may also need to get a new costly rim to go with a new tire.

Your Tire Has Other Issues
If you have any area of the tire too old or worn beyond the tread wear indicators, your tire is not repairable. If your tire is unevenly worn and any of the metal parts inside are visible your tire is not repairable. If you have a bubble, a tear, or a chunk of debris stuck into your tire, it is unrepairable. Even if that’s not the reason why your tire went flat. Basically, if your tire was not safe before the puncture, your tire shop won’t try to repair it.

You Have Run Flat Tires
Many shops will not and should not repair a run-flat tire that has had a puncture. Although run-flats are designed to get you to a shop or home when you have a puncture, they may not have been designed to then be repaired and continue in service after having been driven when deflated. As a regular practice we don’t normally recommend the runflat tires.

If you get a flat tire or think you may have a slow leak and would like to have your tires checked, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

The next thing you notice is your vehicle doesn’t have the same get up and go as it used too. Some times your vehicle sputters or is making strange noises along with some new unfamiliar smells. Lastly the dreaded “Check Engine Light” comes on. These are all signs that you may need a tune up. Don’t worry, tune ups are essential for every vehicle eventually. Below are some of the more critical task performed during a tune up. Depending on the needs of your vehicle other tasks may also need to be completed.

Fluid Replacement: You vehicle requires a variety of liquids to run and perform it’s many functions such as engine oil, brake fluid, coolant and transmission fluid. These all need to be kept clean if parts such as your transmission and engine are to function properly. During your tune up, an Orozco’s Auto Service technician will examine all these fluids and drain and replace them if they show any signs of contamination or loss of viscosity.

These components wear down over time, which can impact your vehicle’s performance. A worn ignition coils could cause engine misfires.

Belt and Hose Replacement: Your vehicle requires several belts and hoses to run all of it’s components along with your engine. The hoses move fluids throughout the engine, and the belts support parts such as the alternator and water pump. Over time daily wear and tear can cause these belts and hoses to crack or break. Over the course of your tune up, we will check your car’s hoses and belts and replace those that show any signs of wear.

Filter Replacement: Your vehicle relies on several filtration systems to filter the air that travels through the engine and the cabin, and they prevent contaminants from polluting your car’s fuel and oil. Each system plays a very important role in maintaining the way your vehicle performs. If your car’s oil filter isn’t replaced at regular intervals, it could cause dirty oil to clog your engine. an Orozco’s Auto Service technician will take a look at your vehicle’s filters and make all the necessary replacements.

Always refer to the maintenance section of your vehicles’ owners manual for their recommended tune up schedule, which can vary from vehicle to vehicle. In many cases, manufacturers advise tuning up your car or truck once every year. Getting regular tune-ups might seem like a hassle, but they’re worth the effort to prevent costly damage over time.

Synthetic Oil Change Is Not Hard Choice

Synthetic Oil Change

Many new car owners in Garden Grove are surprised when they’re told their new vehicle can only use Synthetic oil. Additionally, they discover this is around twice the cost of the standard oil they are used to using. So when did this new costly upgrade happen and is it really benefiting me and my vehicle?

For starters, since 2019 the majority of new vehicles (about 70%) recommend using synthetic oil or a synthetic blend oil for their engines. We’ll get into synthetic blends in another article, for now lets stick with synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is generally a better choice for performance. This is based on the fact that synthetic oil protects your engine due to lower levels of friction. Which tends to protect your engine better at low and high tempters. Additionally, synthetic oils don’t break down as quickly as a standard oil meaning you can go further distances in between oil changes that can help save money in the long run.

What is synthetic oil? Synthetic oil is artificially made from chemical compounds by breaking down and then rebuilding petroleum molecules. The base material, however, is still overwhelmingly crude oil that is distilled and then modified physically and chemically. There are multiple types of synthetics with distinctly different properties and applications.

Here are a few of the benefits of using synthetic oil:

  • Synthetics have a naturally higher viscosity index. Meaning, the viscosity changes less as temperature changes during normal engine startup and operating conditions as a result of being a more stable compound than standard oil.
  • At extremely low temperatures, it is possible for mineral oils to become so thick (high viscosity) that the oil is non-pumpable making it unable to circulate effectively within the engine.
  • Synthetic engine oils are generally less volatile than standard oils. This means there is less loss of the oil to the engine’s exhaust stream causing air pollution. This could also mean less need for adding oil between oil changes.
  • Synthetic oil has a longer lifespan than conventional oil. The recommended change interval for synthetic oil is around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles or 6 to 8 months, with some brands lasting much longer (15,000 to 25,000).
  • Get a longer engine life. Most Garden Grove drivers have never owned a vehicle with more than 200,000 miles on the engine, but with so many new vehicles using synthetic oils we will see more drivers every year achieving this goal.

In conclusion, for many vehicles, synthetic oils may be a better choice for overall engine operation and performance. Unless the biggest factor affecting your selection of lubrication is only the overall cost. But if you really want the best possible protection. If you like the idea of fewer oil changes, upgrading to synthetic oil is the obvious choice, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!
