Garden Grove Auto Repair Tips Anyone Can Use

Garden Grove Auto Repair

At Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove we appreciate all of our loyal customer and know they will always trust us to take the best care of their vehicle. Unfortunately, we also know that there are times when your vehicle may have problems or you have a complete breakdown and may not have the opportunity to get to Orozco’s Auto Service location. If by chance that does ever occur we would like to share some valuable tips to help you in discovering a reliable alternative.

Learn about the auto repair shop’s reputation

If possible, ask around town and see if they know of the shops reputation. Also consider researching a few online reviews while understanding even a bad review can be insightful if the shop owner responds to the bad review with an effort to resolve the complaint. Additionally, feel free to stop in and check it out before making your decision. Is everyone friendly and professional? Is the shop clean and organized? Just by performing some do diligence can go a long ways into choosing an auto repair shop.

Do some online research

It doesn’t take long to do a little research on your estimate. Many common repairs can be found online to give you a better understanding of what the mechanic may be performing on your vehicle. Sadly, some of the less ethical shops out there can try to pad your invoice with non-essential task and or parts that didn’t need to be replaced.

Always ask for estimate prior to any work starting

You should not allow the shop to start working on your car without giving you an estimate for how much the work is expected to cost. In many states you are entitled to: An estimate – Before beginning any repairs, the auto shop must provide you with an estimate showing the estimated price for parts and labor and obtain your authorization. Sometimes the only option available is an estimates given over the phone so even though a written estimate carries more legal weight it may not be feasible. Many times an estimates is simply just an estimates, so it’s possible your bill could be slightly higher, if you see anything that is in excess of that stated amount possibly get a second opinion.

Inform the service advisor or mechanic with as many details as possible

When you bring your vehicle into an auto repair shop try and give the service advisor or mechanic as much information regarding the problem as possible. Letting them know if your vehicle is making strange noises when does that noise or rattle start…while going around corners, just after you start the vehicle and so on. This will give the shop a better directions and they can most likely diagnose the issue sooner and help getting you back on the road quicker.

Ask follow up with questions

Unfortunately, far to many customers fall into the trap of the feared padded bill. Be it adding additional unnecessary repairs, upping to repair time or even listing repairs that aren’t even performed. Any honest auto repair shop wont be insulted if you ask to see the old parts or even point out the new parts installed if they are in a viewable position on your vehicle.

Be mindful of the the service advisors’ attitude

The service advisor, is generally your contact person at the front desk and your go between to the auto mechanic. If they are short with repair descriptions or easily agitated when you ask questions this may be the best time to request a manager or find another shop.

Try to avoid the larger chain stores

A smaller family owned auto repair shop may be a better option, due to the fact that they need to build long term relationships with their customers to earn repeat business. Additionally, the day may come when you need to get your previous repair records for routine maintenance of fluids and parts and having them spread out to several shops may prove difficult in tracking them down.

We hope these tips will be helpful if you’re ever away from an Orozco’s Auto Service location when you’re in need of emergency auto service. Always drive safe!

Synthetic Oil Change Is Not Hard Choice

Synthetic Oil Change

Many new car owners in Garden Grove are surprised when they’re told their new vehicle can only use Synthetic oil. Additionally, they discover this is around twice the cost of the standard oil they are used to using. So when did this new costly upgrade happen and is it really benefiting me and my vehicle?

For starters, since 2019 the majority of new vehicles (about 70%) recommend using synthetic oil or a synthetic blend oil for their engines. We’ll get into synthetic blends in another article, for now lets stick with synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is generally a better choice for performance. This is based on the fact that synthetic oil protects your engine due to lower levels of friction. Which tends to protect your engine better at low and high tempters. Additionally, synthetic oils don’t break down as quickly as a standard oil meaning you can go further distances in between oil changes that can help save money in the long run.

What is synthetic oil? Synthetic oil is artificially made from chemical compounds by breaking down and then rebuilding petroleum molecules. The base material, however, is still overwhelmingly crude oil that is distilled and then modified physically and chemically. There are multiple types of synthetics with distinctly different properties and applications.

Here are a few of the benefits of using synthetic oil:

  • Synthetics have a naturally higher viscosity index. Meaning, the viscosity changes less as temperature changes during normal engine startup and operating conditions as a result of being a more stable compound than standard oil.
  • At extremely low temperatures, it is possible for mineral oils to become so thick (high viscosity) that the oil is non-pumpable making it unable to circulate effectively within the engine.
  • Synthetic engine oils are generally less volatile than standard oils. This means there is less loss of the oil to the engine’s exhaust stream causing air pollution. This could also mean less need for adding oil between oil changes.
  • Synthetic oil has a longer lifespan than conventional oil. The recommended change interval for synthetic oil is around every 5,000 to 7,000 miles or 6 to 8 months, with some brands lasting much longer (15,000 to 25,000).
  • Get a longer engine life. Most Garden Grove drivers have never owned a vehicle with more than 200,000 miles on the engine, but with so many new vehicles using synthetic oils we will see more drivers every year achieving this goal.

In conclusion, for many vehicles, synthetic oils may be a better choice for overall engine operation and performance. Unless the biggest factor affecting your selection of lubrication is only the overall cost. But if you really want the best possible protection. If you like the idea of fewer oil changes, upgrading to synthetic oil is the obvious choice, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Auto Repair: All You Need To Know For New Brake Pads

New Brake Pads

Garden Grove New Brake Pads

One of the most important components of any vehicle are the brakes, particularly, getting new brake pads. These are the crucial component that makes your vehicle stop when necessary. They are also one of the components that wear out over time that if ignored can be a huge safety risk. Because we all know what it means if you can’t stop when you need to. The reason that they wear out is due to the fact that they use friction to help you stop and eventually that friction takes a toll on the brake pads that are made up of materials designed to slow your vehicle without destroying the brake pad and brake disc when contact is made. Over the years auto manufacturers have engineered several materials for making brake pads. These are organic, semi-metallic, metallic, ceramic. Every time you slow or stop your vehicle they wear out a bit more.

Here are more detailed descriptions of the various types of brake pads on the market.

Organic – Brake pads used to be made of asbestos. Several years ago asbestos was discovered to be a carcinogen and associated with causing certain cancers and eventually fazed out of production. Organic brake pads made from materials like rubber, glass, and Kevlar too their place. They are softer than other brake pads, which makes for a quieter function. Thus they wear more sooner and create more dust and debris as they wear down. Moreover because these pads are softer, they don’t offer as much stopping power. Organic pads are generally suited for light cars that don’t see heavy use.

Semi-Metallic – Semi-metallic pads, sometimes referred to as metallic pads, are much more sturdy. As per they’re named they are made from metal, such as iron shavings or bits of steel wire held together with graphite. Metal usually makes up about 30 to 65 percent of the brake pad, thus the name “semi-metallic”. Because metallic brake rotors are hard, they provide good stopping power, but they put more wear on brake rotors / discs. The hard pads also noisier than organic pads.

Additionally metallic brake pads need to warm up before they are at their best efficiency. In very cold weather, they can take longer to get their maximum efficiency, so caution is always advised until your vehicle is fully warmed up. Metallic pads are a good product at a reasonable price, and provide good stopping power under normal driving conditions.

Ceramic – Ceramic brake pads are even more durable. They are made of ceramic materials, sometimes with small amounts of copper. The ceramics dissipate heat well, which keeps them from wearing. That can mean that the rotors take on more heat though, which can lead to rotor warping. Ceramic pads are also more expensive. Ceramic pads are also lighter, which, paired with their heat resistance, makes them well suited to motorsport or aggressive driving. They also produce the least brake dust of any type of brake pads, and less noise than semi-metallic pads.

When it’s time for New Brakes

Some cars have brake-pad sensors that inform the driver of worn brakes via a warning light on the dash or a message shown upon startup. Some brake systems have a metal scraper attached to the pads that serves as a warning alarm by squealing or screeching when they wear too thin. Even though the sound is very disconcerting it is usually harmless, unless ignored. If the noise is less of a screech and more of a grumbling, grinding sound, the pads at one or all of the wheels may be gone altogether, and further use of the brakes can cause serious damage to the rotors. This is not a sound anybody wants to hear, and if you do you should visit Orozco’s Auto Service immediately. You should never wait to replace the brake pads for weeks or months after the first warning signs emerge, or considering properly functioning brakes anything less than a top priority. From a safety standpoint, they are more important than the engine. After all, a poorly maintained engine could result in engine failure. But if your poorly maintained brakes take longer to stop than they should or, worse, fail, the result could be life-threatening.

To ensure that your car is always able to consistently execute the safest stops possible, we recommend changing the brakes before they exhibit the irregularities mentioned above. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual should have recommendations for inspecting the pads at every oil change because brake-pad life can vary greatly, depending on your driving style and whether and driving conditions. Brake pads should be replaced when they reach their service limit, which is usually about 0.1 inch.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or you believe your vehicle’s needs new brake or are not sure and would like to have your brakes inspected, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at (714) 537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Who Can I Trust For Headlight Repair Near Me

Headlight Repair Near Me

Garden Grove Headlight Repair

Headlight technology has come a long way over the past few decades. Car headlights, also known as headlamps, come in a wide variety of types from classic sealed beams to modern halogen lights, xenon and even LED bulbs. Finding replacement headlight bulbs is crucial to a safe car ride and heightened visibility. Not just any light goes into your car or truck. It’s important to know what kind of parts you need. Do you need a whole replacement headlight assembly or do you have an H4 conversion and only need to find a headlight compatible with your housing. Replacing some bulbs requires dismantling parts under the hood. Sometimes an electric relay burns out and prevents electrical power from reaching the headlights. At Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove our technician have the tools and the knowledge to keep you and your vehicle lit and safe.

Good headlights will help you out in inclement weather with a wide but focused beam of light that can save your life from nocturnal road hazards or an oncoming driver with limited visibility on a stormy night. Where we once had to settle for dull and discolored car headlamps, now we can choose from the brightest white light or a 7-color RGB DRL Bar headlight that mounts on the top of your off-road vehicle, virtually banishing darkness.

Today’s vehicles use standard or halogen bulbs, which are much brighter. HID lights use a high-intensity discharge to create white light for much safer driving conditions at night. You can also upgrade to LED bulbs. They cost more, but their powerful brightness makes night driving safer and more comfortable.

Don’t forget the headlight lenses
Over time, the plastic headlight lenses become yellow or foggy, which will block a lot of light. Visit Orozco’s Auto Service and our ASE certified technicians can make them look new again with special cleaners and polishes, and a hard protective finish. It’s much less expensive than having your lenses replaced.

Below is a list of a variety of available headlights products

REFLECTOR HEADLIGHTS – These are the oldest of the bunch and were often considered dull stock headlights.

PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS – once only found in European performance cars, but today they are common.

H4 CONVERSIONS – the most accessible aftermarket upgrade the average driver can make to their driving lights.

HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS – combine two gasses to create a more efficient lighting environment than old-school filament bulbs.

HID HEADLIGHTS (XENON HEADLIGHTS) – high-intensity headlights give the most visibility to the driver. After filling a glass tube with Xenon gas, an arc of electric current is run through the bulb to produce incredibly hot plasma-filled white-blue lights.

LED HEADLIGHTS – activate with a speed that almost makes them almost automatic headlights. small and compact, but unfortunately get very hot and need expensive components to make them fully efficient.

Headlights may be the most prominent lights on your vehicle but there’s may other important lights. brake lights, back-up lights, license-plate lights, turn-signal lights, fog lights, and more. all requiring regular inspections and maintenance. Additionally, the Highway Safety Code designates headlights and other lights as part of your vehicle’s safety equipment. So, you can avoid a fine by ensuring that all your lights are working properly.

If you are concerned about any of your vehicles lights or you would like to upgrade any of your lights call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Automotive Power Seat Repair? Try These Tips!

Automotive Electric Seat Repair

Garden Grove Power Seat Repair

When you’re driving down Garden Grove Blvd., you want to be comfortable – and in today’s vehicles that comfort comes in the shape of a luxurious power seat. Most drivers have their seat, steering wheels, & mirrors adjusted for their own ergonomics, but nowadays many vehicles are equipped with electric power seats.

When you press the power seat button on your seat or door, the power seat switch triggers a motor which then moves your seat forward or backward on a track. This control allows you to find the optimal placement for your seat, so that the gas and brake pedals are the right distance for your feet, and so that you are comfortable.

And with many things electronic, power seats and their controls are more likely to fail than simple mechanical lever controlled seats. When the power seat switch fails, the seats won’t move when you press the button, and you won’t be able to control the placement of your seat. While this may not be a serious problem – you may not be able to see or operate your vehicle easily if the seat is stuck in a position too far away from what you’re used to rendering your vehicle undrivable. Power seat switches are usually located on the seat itself or door panel. Those switches send power to the seat motors, allowing you to move your seat in multiple directions. If the switch malfunctions, then the seat may no longer move, or its movement may be limited. Also,  it’s common for debris to get stuck in the tracks, preventing the seat from moving. However, if cleaning the debris doesn’t resolve the problem, your seat or switches may need to be repaired or replaced. If the switches are working and there is no debris, but your seat still does not move, you may have a malfunctioning power seat motor or a short in one of the wires going to the switch or motor. Something that only a seasoned ASE certified mechanic can handle, just like the mechanics employed at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove!

In order to repair power seats, the seat must first be removed, then the motors, switches, & wiring will be inspected. Once the source of the problem is found, it must be repaired or replaced, then everything must be reassembled & thoroughly tested.

If your vehicle’s power seat is malfunctioning or moving unusually slowly, or If you have questions regarding Power Seat Repair contact Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Where To Go For Hybrid Repair Without Trouble

Hybrid Repair

Here at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove we have a lot of customers asking if they get a hybrid vehicle do they still need maintenance. And if so where can I get it done. Sorry to say but yes all vehicles electric and hybrid vehicels still need maintained. Not only do you want your new baby to last longer you also will want to ensure it’s always safe. These are critical tasks that should always be addressed on any vehicle. All vehicles have conventional brakes, suspension, tires along with all those fancy bells and whistles on todays new vehicles. Not to mention the complete combustion engine in hybrid vehicles. And to the second question, Absolutely Yes, our Certified ASE technicians are qualified to work on all types of vehicles. Our technicians are required to attend continued education for anything new that comes along as part of that certification.

While all vehicles do need maintenance you be happy hybrids don’t require any type of special maintenance. Additionally, the hybrid system can reduce normal wear and tear on some conventional parts of the vehicle. When the electric motor takes over, the gas engine shuts down. Resulting in having far fewer miles than the reading on the odometer. Some manufacturer even suggest going long between oil changes. We always recommend following your auto’s manual for factory recommendations for any service.

Brakes do need to be maintained on hybrids but at longer intervals. Hybrid vehicles use regenerative braking that re-directs the friction involved in stopping the to replenish the battery. That energy would otherwise be heat on your brakes and pads. So brake jobs will be fewer and farther between in a hybrid. You aren’t completely off the hook though, as you will still need windshield wipers, tires, light bulbs, and cabin air filters. Not to mention the additional battery weight can sped of the wear on your tires.

Hybrid-specific parts are covered by a warranty of at least eight years and 100,000 miles. Some states, including California, have mandated hybrid warranties of ten years and 150,000 miles, which includes the battery pack. As more hybrids have taken to the road, these packs have become less expensive. And there are stories of many hybrids still on the road with their original battery packs at 200,000 miles or more.

With no gasoline engine at all, electric cars eliminate oil and filter changes, tune-ups, exhaust system maintenance, emissions tests, timing belt replacements and engine repairs. Yes, there is an electric motor, but that motor has few moving parts and requires little in the way of maintenance.

And, like the hybrids we mentioned above, electrics use regenerative braking, which converts the friction into energy to replenish the battery instead of letting it become heat on your brakes and brake pads. Similar to the hybrid cars, electrics will require fewer, less frequent brake jobs.

If you’re considering getting a hybrid one thing to factor in is the cost difference low enough to be offset by the savings in gasoline and maintenance? For electrics, you need to consider range. Can the car get you through a typical day without needing a recharge? Is there a charging station at work? Are you willing to pay to have one installed at home? And lastly there’s always that great feeling you’ll have knowing you are doing your part to help save our planet.

Regardless of your decision Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove will always be here to help maintain, service or repair any vehicle you decide to get.

What To Do When You Need A Brake Fluid Flush

brake repair

Garden Grove Brake Fluid Flush

In Garden Grove, California, a bustling city renowned for its lively streets and heavy traffic, the safety of vehicles takes center stage. One critical aspect of maintaining vehicle safety and performance is the brake system, which heavily relies on brake fluid. Regular brake fluid flushes play a vital role in preserving the integrity of this essential system. In this article, we will explore the indicators of deteriorating brake fluid, the significance of professional auto mechanics, and the advantages of Orozco’s Auto Service, which provides a two-year, 24,000-mile warranty.

In the demanding driving conditions of Garden Grove, it is essential to recognize the signs that suggest your brake fluid might be compromised. Damaged brake fluid can result in diminished braking performance, potentially endangering you and others on the road. Symptoms to watch out for include a soft or spongy brake pedal, increased braking distance, a noticeable decrease in braking power, or the illumination of a brake warning light on the dashboard. These signs indicate that it may be time for a brake fluid flush.

Brake fluid serves as a hydraulic fluid that transfers the force from the brake pedal to the brake components, enabling effective stopping power. Over time, brake fluid can absorb moisture, leading to a decrease in its boiling point and diminished performance. Additionally, contaminants and debris can accumulate, impeding the smooth flow of the fluid. Regular brake fluid flushes are essential to eliminate old, degraded fluid and replace it with fresh fluid, ensuring optimal braking performance and upholding road safety for all.

When it comes to maintaining the safety and performance of your vehicle, relying on the expertise of professional auto mechanics is crucial. Oil Spots On The Driveway? Oil Leak Repair – Orozco’s

oil leak repair

Garden Grove Oil Leak Repair

In the picturesque city of Garden Grove, California, residents often grapple with the vexing issue of engine oil leaks in their cars. Few things are as disheartening as stepping out to your vehicle in the morning, only to discover a mysterious fluid stain sullying your otherwise pristine driveway. This commonplace automotive predicament can swiftly escalate if left unaddressed. Recognizing the warning signs, identifying indicators of a brake fluid leak, and promptly seeking assistance from trusted auto experts, such as the skilled mechanics at Orozco’s Auto Service, can make a substantial difference in safeguarding your vehicle’s longevity and on-road safety.

Indications of an Engine Oil Leak:

  1. Oil Puddles Beneath Your Vehicle: A telltale sign of an engine oil leak manifests as dark, thick fluid puddles beneath your car, often visible in your driveway or parking space.
  2. Pungent Burning Odor: An engine oil leak can cause oil to drip onto heated engine components, producing a distinctive burning scent. Detecting this odor while driving or after parking may indicate an oil leak.
  3. Insufficient Oil Levels: Regularly inspecting your vehicle’s oil levels using the dipstick is crucial. Consistently low oil levels between oil changes could signal a leak.
  4. Smoke or Steam Emanating from the Engine: When engine oil comes into contact with hot engine parts, it can generate smoke or steam. If you observe either of these emerging from beneath the hood, it’s time for further investigation.

Signs of Brake Fluid Leakage:

  1. Spongy Brake Pedal: A soft or sinking brake pedal when pressure is applied could be a sign of a brake fluid leak. This is a critical safety issue that demands immediate attention.
  2. Dashboard Warning Lights: Modern vehicles are equipped with dashboard warning lights for various systems, including the brake system. If a warning light related to low brake fluid level illuminates, it could be due to a leak.
  3. Visible Brake Fluid Under the Car: Similar to engine oil leaks, brake fluid leaks can leave puddles beneath your vehicle. Brake fluid typically appears clear or slightly yellow, so if you spot a clear, oily liquid beneath your car, it may be brake fluid.

When you encounter these symptoms or signs, entrusting your vehicle to professionals capable of expertly addressing oil leaks is imperative. In Garden Grove, Orozco’s Auto Service stands out as a reliable and esteemed choice for tackling these issues.

Do It Yourself Auto Repair Tips And Tricks

TIP! An emergency kit is a must for your car. Include a spare tire, a jack, a battery charger and a container full of gas.

It can be costly, time-consuming and stressful to deal with auto repairs if you don’t know a lot about the subject. Knowing about your particular model can help you learn all kinds of tricks too. Read on to save yourself time and money in the future.

TIP! When you are experiencing car trouble, you may not have to call a mechanic. You can easily learn to perform small repairs yourself.

Consider keeping a high quality battery charger in your car. Dead batteries happen a lot, and you can provide assistance to others if you keep a charger on hand. Locate the points the battery charger should be connected to so you can easily jump start your own vehicle.

TIP! Talk with your technician to determine if they have worked on your car before. If yes, then you can trust them with your car.

Ask your mechanic if he’s worked on a vehicle similar to yours. While all cars have the same basic components, there are big differences as to how they are attached and located under the hood. If you aren’t sure, take your car to get serviced at the dealer.

TIP! Wash your car regularly to prevent rust from becoming a problem. Salt and other harmful chemicals will speed up the rusting process.

Compare more than 3 estimates so that you can get the best deal on your repair. Although most auto shops are reliable, you don’t want to pay too much. Check out other options which are trustworthy. There’s a good chance that these shops will know how to repair your car.

TIP! When your headlights or taillights burn out, you can save a lot of money on repairs if you do it yourself. Having a mechanic do it is horribly expensive.

It is possible to repair taillights and headlights that have burned out. While it’s easier in some vehicles than others, it’s a whole lot cheaper to do it yourself. Ask your friends and relatives if they can help with this small repair.

Wiper Blades

TIP! You should still wash your car during the winter time. Although you may feel like the car just gets dirty again right after cleaning it, the winter weather is harsh on your vehicle.

Pay attention to the condition of your car’s wiper blades. You need new windshield wipers if the ones you have are making noises and leaving streaks on the glass. Wiper blades should be replaced at a minimum of once per year, or more than that if you reside in a particularly wet climate.

TIP! You do not necessarily have to go through your dealership if repairs are needed. There are several reputable technicians in auto shops and at dealerships.

Learning about repairing your car just makes sense. You can be a lot more self-sufficient using this knowledge, and this could help your wallet out too! Don’t forget these tips and use them when your car needs it.
