Take Care Of Your Flat Tire Repair At Orozco’s Auto Service

Flat Tire Repair

A flat tire seems to never happen when not in a rush to go some place. Sometimes you walk out to your vehicle to go to work and there’s a flat tire or your heading down the road to pick up the kids and notice you’re car pulling to one side and is a bit sluggish or worst case your driving down the 405 freeway and get a blow out. These are all terrible situations to be in, at Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove, we know how inconvenient a flat tire can be. Tires can go flat for many reasons, including a puncture, a leaking valve stem, a bent rim or just old tires. If you experience a flat or low tire, bring your vehicle to a stop as soon as possible without jeopardizing your safety or the people around you and preferably in a safe place. If you’re stranded on the roadside, turn on your hazard lights and raise your hood if it’s a safe place to exit your vehicle. Once you are safely situated, you can change to your spare, try a tire sealer/inflator or call for a tow truck. Don’t try driving for even a very short distance on a deflated tire because it will damage the tire beyond repair and possibly your rim.

Unfortunately not all tires can be repaired even when they just have a nail in the tire and are told by a tire. Here are a few common reasons why some tires shouldn’t be repaired.

The Puncture Is In The None Repair Zone
In order to repair a tire the puncture needs to be about 20% away from both sides of the tire towards the treads. If your puncture is to close the sidewall and is repaired, this can compromise the structure of the tire making it unsafe to drive on. Tire shops need to keep customers safe, and they all follow an industry standard and will are not aloud to repair a puncture too close to either sidewall. Even if it’s close they won’t patch it to protect your safety and themselves from any liability.

You Drove To Far On A Deflated Tire
Today’s tires have an inner structure of the sidewall that isn’t designed to support your vehicle’s weight when not properly inflated. You can sometimes get away with driving on a flat for a short distance – meaning a few feet not down the street. Just drove 10 minutes on the flat will not only destroy the sidewall structure of your tire, but you may also need to get a new costly rim to go with a new tire.

Your Tire Has Other Issues
If you have any area of the tire too old or worn beyond the tread wear indicators, your tire is not repairable. If your tire is unevenly worn and any of the metal parts inside are visible your tire is not repairable. If you have a bubble, a tear, or a chunk of debris stuck into your tire, it is unrepairable. Even if that’s not the reason why your tire went flat. Basically, if your tire was not safe before the puncture, your tire shop won’t try to repair it.

You Have Run Flat Tires
Many shops will not and should not repair a run-flat tire that has had a puncture. Although run-flats are designed to get you to a shop or home when you have a puncture, they may not have been designed to then be repaired and continue in service after having been driven when deflated. As a regular practice we don’t normally recommend the runflat tires.

All You Need To Learn About Power Steering Repair

Power Steering Repair

Garden Grove Power Steering Repair

Have you ever been exiting a sharp off ramp onto Garden Grove Boulevard and thought what would happen if I lost power steering on this curve? First off, don’t panic. Power steering provides you with an electronic or hydraulic assist in turning the front wheels. If you’re moving at a decent speed you may not even notice it went out until you slow down. Then trying to turn the wheel is difficult but with a little muscle you will be able to pull over and make it to a safe stop or your friends at Orozco’s Auto Service.

Two Types Power Steering

Hydraulic Power Steering System relies on a hydraulic pump, the engine’s power, and the hydraulic fluid to steer the vehicle. With the combination of the hydraulic pump and the vehicle’s engine, it applies force on the steering gear by pumping hydraulic fluid to the power steering pump. The power steering fluid is stored in a depressurized form within the power steering reservoir, and only when needed does the power steering pump pressurize the fluid and deliver it to assist you in steering.

Electrical power steering relies on an electrical motor and sensors on the steering column. By analyzing the input from the steering wheel, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) then sends a signal to an electronic motor, which is located at the base of the steering column. This motor then turns and aids the driver with the steering process.

Here’s a bit more safety info if your power steering goes out.

The first to do when have lost power steering besides don’t panic is communication. As in any emergency situation on or off the road is it’s vital to let other around you know that something has gone wrong. The simplest way to do this is to activate your hazard lights so that everyone around you will notice that you are starting to slow down or you may have an issue with your vehicle. Most automobile manufactures have taken to mounting the hazard light button in an obvious place in the middle of the dash, but it may also be near the steering wheel. It’s always a good idea to know were this button is when driving in a new vehicle.

As you gently lower your speed, keep a firm grip on the wheel at all times and don’t hit your brakes too hard, especially if the roads are wet or icy. The lack of power steering will make the wheel feel heavy in your hands, and it will also make the front wheels less responsive to your actions. Maintain keeping calm and ease into the brakes slowly.

Knowing what to do if you lose power steering eventually comes down to looking for a safe spot on the side of the road where you can pull over without incident. You will still be able to steer the vehicle, even if it’s more difficult. Remember that turning the wheel requires more effort as your vehicle slows down. Give yourself as much room to turn as possible. Even though the turning radius of the vehicle hasn’t changed, your ability to make that turn quickly will be reduced.

After pulling over if the power steering is completely out, this may be the right time to call for a tow truck. You don’t want to risk getting yourself into a situation where you won’t be able to react in time to avoid a accident.

There are some signs you can be aware of that your power steering may soon be in need of repair. You may notice a whining or squealing noise. It could be difficult turning the steering wheel. You may notice a leak of power steering fluid near the steering gear or rack, this is usually a red fluid. Your vehicle may wanders or pulls to one side. This could be a premature steering gear is worn and or can be caused by lack of lubrication from power steering fluid.

If you are concerned about any of your power steering or you would like to have your steering inspected call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at 714-537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!

Need Help With Engine Repair? Call Orozco’s

Engine Repair

Garden Grove Engine Repair

We all know that auto repair isn’t something most people regularly budget for. So sometimes your vehicle is suddenly making a new noise,  there’s a different type of smoke coming from the tail pipe or a few drops of oil on the driveway. Even our Garden Grove weekend DIY folks sometimes put off these repairs because it’s a dirty job or can eat up their entire day. Sadly, these types of minor issues may not stop you from maintaining your daily driving routine for now, but if you ignore them for too long you may need a tow truck. Here are few repairs you should stop putting off before they become a costly repair and visit Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove.

FLUID LEAKS
If you have been topping off your oil for a long time rather than finding the leak, it is time to stop putting off the inevitable. While a small fluid drip may be annoying on your driveway, it may also coat your engine and damage other components. Delaying that power steering pump leak repair will sure seem silly when it ruins the alternator as well. So do yourself and your driveway a favor and visit the Pros at Orozco’s Auto Service.

EXHAUST LEAKS
While the noise may be annoying, an exhaust leak can also lead to nasty fumes finding their way into the passenger compartment. In extreme cases a leak can burn or melt nearby components. Unfortunately they can also be hard to track down, especially when buried in the engine compartment. Cast iron manifolds can crack, bolts can break, gaskets can fail, and exhaust pipes can rust through. The straight forward repair is to replace the offending part. For some vehicles though, there are creative workarounds from NAPA Solutions like exhaust manifold repair clamps.

WORN SHOCKS / STRUTS
Worn out shocks and struts have a way of sneaking up on you. They rarely go bad overnight, but when they are at the end of their service life they may as well not be there at all. Shocks and struts take the abuse that would normally be transmitted to other chassis components. Without that protection, those chassis parts wear out faster. Shocks are usually straightforward to replace, and strut replacement has become easier thanks to the availability of modular strut assemblies. Once the job is done, the difference will be immediately apparent on your next drive.

FAILING CV AXLES
You’ve already been warned your CV boots are torn, but there’s no way to know just when the joint inside will start to fail. If you’re hearing a clicking and popping when turning left or right, then it’s time for new axles. Waiting too long could lead to dangerous driveline vibrations and possibly even failure of the axle assembly itself. Make the time and call Orozco’s Auto Service.

If your vehicle is showing any of the above signs or are not sure and would like to have your vehicle diagnosed, call Orozco’s Auto Service of Garden Grove today at (714) 537-0076. Keep your vehicle in good condition and ensure the safety of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you!
